Reindeers are coming to town

Our town will be filled with magic and joy. The lighting of the Christmas lights is scheduled for 5 p.m. in the Matija Gubec Park. During the ceremony, Santa's reindeer are supposed to arrive in front of the Library to receive the keys to Santa's office in Poreč from Slovko Maraforko of the Poreč City Library. There we will have fun together and you can drop your wishlist into Santa's mailbox before 31 December. We will also have the opportunity to see postcards and postage stamps from all over the world that Santa Claus has diligently collected and stored. The exhibition will be presented to us by philatelist from Poreč, Slavoljub Katančević.

Youth lecture: From Christmas to Christmas, From Word to Word

Istrian folk heritage is teeming with Christmas traditions. Like so many of our other customs, they reach far into the past and have their roots in our common European pre-Christian traditions. Alas, many customs, as well as words, appellations and names, have faded into obscurity over time and only remain in the memories of older generations. It is nice to remember and to keep them from falling into oblivion. The lecture will be given by Prof. Alvijana Klarić.

Thursday, 12 December at 5 p.m.

Miniature Travelling Theatre - kamishibai Shows for Kids and Grown-Ups

Kamishibai – a long time ago, this miniature paper theatre used to be very popular on the streets of Japan. Kamishibai storytellers would carry miniature stages on their bicycles and go from village to village to tell stories to children. This type of storytelling was popular until the advent of television... The intimate and enchanting atmosphere of a time gone by will take over our library in a marathon of stunning performances given by sublime kamishibai storytellers under the dim spotlights. Slip into a magical world of fantasy halfway between image and words.
